Project:
Mechanical design & optimisation of a centrifugal pump impeller using CFD
Project has involved the development of a bespoke pump impeller with superior pumping performance to readily available components. Scope of work has included:
- impeller state-of-the-art technology investigations
- supplier identification & selection
- optimisation of blade design parameters such as blade number, direction & attack angle through use of CFD
- mechanical design / detailing of interfaces to pump including sealing
- setting of geometric tolerances and limits & fits
- manufacturing documentation
Final design chosen on the grounds of achieving the best trade-off between performance and cost. The resulting part was just 22% of the cost of the original – a very significant reduction in cost for the client.
