Detailed design of a next-generation turbine technology demonstrator

Fascinating project working for a not-for-profit organisation involving taking historic concepts of high-performing machines from expired patents and developing them further to the point whereby the concepts can be built, tested and evaluated for effectiveness. One such project culminated in trials which produced very successful results, leading to the development of a larger, more complex machine.

The work involved the interpretation of sketches and design intent and completion of the concepts, followed by detailed design and production of documentation for manufacture. The job required the specification of very demanding limits for balance and tight geometric tolerances / limits / fits and exotic materials to withstand the operating conditions inside the turbine.

The finished demonstrator is a stepping-stone to a larger machine that will be developed and built to save energy in a real-life application of industrial proportions.
