Cleantech / "Green" technologies & design for sustainability

One definition of Cleantech is that it represents a diverse range of products, services, and processes, all intended to "provide superior performance at lower costs".

Good design, by its nature provides an attractive balance between function and cost. As product designers we have always been driven to design to a cost but this drive is noticeably more intense the closer the product gets to manufacturing, where initiatives like "Lean Design", "Six Sigma Lean" and "Design for Manufacture & Assembly" (DfMA) are the order of the day. Warley Design Solutions is staffed by people who have worked in the EMS industry and so are sensitive to all elements of product cost and waste.

Although historically only the cost associated with parts, assembly labour and logistics are counted, nowadays the total life costs are becoming increasingly important. In mechanical terms this makes us sensitive to the total life costs associated with materials and their processing, from start to finish.

Recently we have designed low-power consuming cooling devices for the computing industry and low power / low weight products for military applications. We have also supported the development of electronic modules used in energy generation through Photo-Voltaic means (solar panels).
